
Gijs Boudewijn (1958) retired as general manager at the Dutch Payments Association (DPA) on June 1, 2025. He has 40 years of experience in domestic as well as international payments related issues and was closely involved in regulatory issues, the Euro introduction, Y2K, PSD2/3/PSR matters, open banking and the RTS of the EBA, instant payments and digital euro. He recently stepped down as Chair of the Legal Support Group of the European Payments Council (EPC) after 13 years. He also served several terms as EPC Board member, and was Vice-Chair of the Payment Expert Group of the European Banking Federation (EBF, after having served 3 terms as Chair). He was Vice-Chair of the European Card Payments Association (ECPA), and Chair of the Payments Working Group of the International Banking Federation (IBFed). Last, he was a member of the Payment Systems Market Expert Group (PSMEG) of the European Commission and co-Chair of the EPC’s SEPA Payment Account Access scheme Multi Stakeholder Group on behalf of the credit sector associations. Recently he joined the Editorial Board of the Journal of Payments and Systems Strategy (JPSS), and was appointed Editor as of 7 July 2025. On June 11, 2025 he took office as the new Chairman of the EPC Board, and on 1 September 2025 he joined the Supervisory Board of a Dutch payment services provider. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences on strategic and regulatory payments related issues, instant payments, new technologies, open banking and pan-European payment solutions.
