
Antonio Schimperna Director of Production of the Banknotes Directorate at Banca d ’Italia, with long-standing experience in the development and production of banknotes. He is a member of the Banknote Development Steering Group of the ECB and Chair of the Manufacturing Process Committee of the European Banknote Conference. Since joining the Bank of Italy in 1996, he has held a range of positions across all key areas of the Banknotes Directorate — printing, planning, quality control, cutting and sorting, research and development — supporting technological innovation and the continuous improvement of processes. He has also coordinated cooperation projects with other central banks and international partners. Graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome, he began his career at Cartiere Burgo and later at ABB. Over the years, he has been involved in numerous international working groups and task forces established by the ECB on banknote production and development.
